['mʌlɪkən], Matt, amerikanischer Maler, Plastiker, Fotograf und Konzeptkünstler, * Santa Monica (Calif.) 18. 9. 1951; einer der einflussreichsten zeitgenössischen Konzeptkünstler; arbeitet an der Darstellung und unmittelbar sinnlicher Umsetzung einer enzyklopädischen Weltsicht, die parallel zu den durch Sprache geschaffenen rationalen Strukturen die Ordnung eines imaginären Bilderuniversums entwirft. In seriellen Sprach-Bild-Kombinationen, in Performances, in computerunterstützten Entwürfen utopischer Stadträume formuliert Mullican den Gedanken, dass die Kunst durch ihren zeichenhaften Verweischarakter auch eine vorwegnehmende Konkretion von Ideen sein kann.
